It’s a recipe that not many wineries would follow. Take a family who knows nothing about growing grapes and have them start a vineyard in southwest Virginia in the late ’90s. But that is exactly what happened for Stanburn Vineyard with the Stanley family. There was an opportunity and a winery needing grapes grown that was closer to them. Chateau Morrisette needed grape growers and the Stanleys decided “why not?” After learning a “ton” about the Virginia Wine Industry, they then decided to start a winery after 10 years of growing grapes.
