But that is exactly what happened for Stanburn Vineyard with the Stanley family. There was an opportunity and a winery needing grapes grown that was closer to them. Chateau Morrisette needed grape growers and the Stanleys decided “why not?” After learning a “ton” about the Virginia Wine Industry, they then decided to start a winery after 10 years of growing grapes.

Brooks Farm is a 4th generation farming operation and is one of Franklin County’s certified organic dairy farms with milk marketed through Organic Valley. Young organic calves are available for sale. If you’re looking for fresh, wholesale produce, sold direct from local farmers, Foothills Produce Auction is the place you need to come. Beginning in spring of 2016, FPA holds auctions at 9:30 AM on Tuesdays and Fridays from mid-April through October. We are located at 92 Pleasant Breeze Road, Rocky Mount, one minute off Route 220. All growers package produce according to FPA packaging guide lines. There are both small and large lots which are sold to the highest bidder. It is operated on a commission basis – no buyers premium. There is a good in-season variety available including spring and fall flowers (hanging baskets, annuals, and mums), apples and peaches, berries, and most local vegetables. Anyone is welcome to buy – homeowners, farmers, market vendors, retail markets, restaurants, and wholesale buyers. Please come 30 minutes prior to sale time to look at the product you need to purchase. Will be glad to see you!!

At Sandy River Pork, the farm animals are raised all natural with no hormones or antibiotics used in production. They process 75% of the products they sell on their farm, in a state-inspected processing facility.

We purchase USDA inspected meat which is not locally raised but is preservative free. It is processed into retail beef, pork, and chicken products then vacuum packed. The chicken is all natural. We make sausage using our special blend of spices and sell deli meats and cheeses from Amish Country in Ohio. We are located at the intersection of Wirtz Road (Route 697) and Booker T. Washington Highway (Route 122). Open year round.

We are a small vegetable and fruit farm near Burnt Chimney. Our children have baked goods, homemade soap, and weave rugs to sell with our produce. We also offer fresh brown eggs. Our girls grow fresh cut flowers to sell at the Homestead Creamery. We sell at the Westlake Farmers’ Market in season.

We operate a small “farmers’ market” of fresh fruits and vegetables in season at our shed in Callaway. Some of our produce is also grown for the Foothills Produce Auction held Tuesdays and Fridays.

Beckner’s Produce is an open-air market selling local produce grown on our fourth-generation farm. (Their garden can be seen from the stand!) They start picking their greenhouse tomatoes and cucumbers in March, followed by strawberries, asparagus, and spring plants. Summer brings heirloom tomatoes, sweet corn, beans, peaches, squash, cukes, berries, and peppers. Fall is around the corner when you spot sweet potatoes, pumpkins, and apples. (All vegetables and fruits are non-GMO.) They also offer fresh baked goods from their kitchen.

Boone’s Country Store has been family owned and operated since December 1975 with the third generation now baking. Our bakery products are made from scratch on the premises. Fresh vegetables are grown with only natural fertilizers and sprays. We have meat and cheese from Amish country in Ohio, local eggs, local produce and honey. We offer a large selection of hard-to-find and unusual items along with handmade quilts, baby items and other crafts, bulk foods, and a fabric shop. Retreat from the busyness of daily life in our lovingly restored folk Victorian farmhouse that has been in the family for at least 6 generations and is a Virginia Century Farm. Located on a quiet country road, the circa 1879 farmhouse is part of a 183-acre sustainable farm that is home to a herd of goats and free-range chickens. We use chemical-free farming methods, create our own compost, line dry sheets, seek to reduce our consumption, and recycle whenever possible. The house has 2 bedrooms for 4 guests (1 queen and 2 twin beds), 2 1/2 baths, a kitchen, and laundry facilities. Babies and toddlers are welcome to sleep with their parents if they bring a portable crib. Guests will enjoy the peace and quiet, spending time walking, star gazing, seeing the farm animals, watching the wildlife, relaxing on the porch, or taking day trips to local attractions. With no internet and limited cell phone coverage, it is a perfect place to get away from it all. Come for a weekend or a week. Wolf Creek Farm is a Private Country Retreat located on 102-acres between Mt. Airy, NC and The Blue Ridge Parkway . We offer varied accommodations for couples and families!

We offer non-GMO fed, pasture-raised chicken grown at Wild Hare Farm in Ferrum, Virginia. The Ferrum Chicken Lady moves meat chickens twice a day across the pasture. After 8 to 9 weeks, chicken is processed partially on-farm and at a USDA facility. Parts (breasts, leg quarters, wings) and whole birds are available year-round when inventory allows.

Our non-GMO beef, pork, and eggs are grown here on the farm and are complimentary to the raw A2 milk herdshare program we offer. We have a small farm in southern VA near Martinsville. This all started in the spring of 2017 with 8 chickens. The idea of having fresh eggs every day has now led to adding pigs and meat birds, both chicken and turkeys. We believe in the simple and straight forward idea of right and wrong. Hard work fixes most ailments, and everyone plays their part from the children to the animals. We enjoy letting our animals be animals. Letting the pigs root around, eating acorns and grass. The Sustainable Homestead Institute is home to goats, cows, chickens, bees, rabbits, and diverse wildlife. Each year local farmers enjoy access to the over 12,000 plants started from seed in our state of the art teaching greenhouse. While some of the produce ends up on the plates of students, much more makes its way to local consumers, restaurants, and families in need.

The Virginia Home Inn was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2000. It was originally built for Marshall Fields in 1920. A 22-room home that has been skillfully converted into a quaint, country bed & breakfast with 8 rooms available for overnight guests.

Tucked behind the pines, this 1854 Greek-Revival boutique hotel rests on 10 scenic acres covered in brilliantly colored wildflowers. When you first arrive, you will be greeted with the burst of the bright red shutters contrasting the cool greens surrounding the home. Tall deep-rooted trees stand, circling the property creating a spotlight of sunshine, highlighting the property’s most mesmerizing features. Steeped in history, The Early Inn is perfect for place overnight accommodations, weddings and events, private dinners, etc.

Rental vacation homes are located right on the course for those who want a “Stay and Play Golf Package” for two nights or long weekend. The club can provide the Corner House, a contemporary modern home of glass and stone, with four bedrooms, four baths, large screened porch, open deck, living room/dining room with fireplace, playroom with wood stove and wet bar, all the modern amenities including wireless internet. For smaller groups the terrace level may be rented separately. The Corner House is located on the #2 tee.

At KC Farms Meats, we raise 100%  Red Angus beef. Not only are we the farmers raising your meat, but we also process the meat in our beautiful on-farm processing facility to allow our beef to be available year-round. Every step of growing the beef and processing is completed at KC Farms in Ferrum. At this time, we are offering beef shares in 1/4, 1/2, and whole amounts.

Open mid-April through October, Tuesdays and Fridays, auctions start at 9:30am and run until entire floor is sold. If you’re looking for fresh, wholesale produce, sold direct from local farmers, Foothills Produce Auction is the place to be. Established in spring of 2016, FPA holds auctions at 9:30 AM on Tuesdays and Fridays from mid-April through October. We are located at 92 Pleasant Breeze Road, Rocky Mount, one minute off Route 220. All growers package produce according to FPA packaging guide lines. There are both small and large lots which are sold to the highest bidder. It is operated on a commission basis – no buyers premium.  There is variety of in season produce available including spring and fall flowers (hanging baskets, annuals, and mums), apples, peaches, berries, and local vegetables. Anyone is welcome to buy – homeowners, farmers, market vendors, retail markets, restaurants, and wholesale buyers. We recommend coming 30 minutes prior to the start of the auction at 9:30 to take a look and examine desired produce. We are always excited to see new faces and welcome you to the FPA family!!

Rocky Mount’s Farmers’ Market at Citizen Square gives area residents a popular gathering place for events and offers local produce growers the opportunity to sell their goods in a central location. The Market is open year-round, with the most active season from April through December. Saturday is typically the busiest day of the week at the market, with featured products depending on the season.

This year’s Farmers’ Market is offering a large variety of local goods. As always, there is a vast variety of local fruits and vegetables for sale. We also have delicious baked goods, farm eggs, assortment of jams & jellies, salsas, local honey, beautiful flowers & plants, soaps, crafts, sweets and much more. Many of our vendors have competitive prices with the grocery store. And in many cases, the Market’s produce is healthier and fresher than what you will find elsewhere. The Market is accepting EBT / SNAP cards and is currently offering an EBT match program. Just see our manager to receive tokens to exchange out with the vendors.

Diamond S Farms is a family-owned beef cattle operation located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains. At our headquarters in Union Hall, Virginia, we focus on producing trouble-free, sustainable beef genetics and performance Quarter Horses. Our local born and raised Angus cattle are grown on grass, finished on cracked corn, and dry aged in order to promote maximum taste, tenderness, and juiciness.
